progressions

In order to study the progress I've made on a painting when I am not able to be right in front of it, I've gotten in the habit of taking a digital photograph after each work session. And while this has been a very useful tool, it also makes for a fairly interesting slide show where you can watch the piece progress in each subsequent photo.

Progression: Pink Plastic Bunny

<<<Back           Next>>>

I started work on the Pink Plastic Bunny painting in late June of 2001. I finished it in late October. It is a large detail of a plastic bunny bubbles dispenser (missing an eye) that I found at a drugstore in Philadelphia earlier that year. The mottled texture of the plastic, and the unholy shininess of the surface made it a compelling--and difficult--subject to paint, particularly in such a detailed large format.

I took a number of pictures of my work as the painting progressed. Here are a few photos showing the process from beginning to end. Towards the end, you may find it difficult to tell the difference between the versions shown, but try looking closely at the details and highlights.
